If you are thinking about sponsoring someone on an upcoming Tres Dias weekend, there are a few things you should consider:
How well do you know your candidate - know the person, not just know about the person? Well enough to be sure that this is the right time in his/her life for this type of experience? Is your candidate physically capable of participating in all of the activities of the Tres Dias weekend? Have you prepared your candidate for the accommodations – the possibility of sharing a room with someone, and depending on the facility, the sharing of bathroom facilities?
Have you explained to your candidate that this is meant to be a cloistered weekend and that they will be asked to leave their cell phones at home, or at the very least, leave them off and in their rooms during the weekend? Have you made your candidate aware of the cost of the weekend or made arrangements to cover the cost of your candidate’s weekend?
Are you prepared to fulfill all of your sponsorship responsibilities? Sponsorship should be considered a total commitment, not just a partial act of selection. Sponsorship involves helping your candidate become more of a leader for Christ through the Tres Dias experience.
Sponsors should be prepared to support their candidate on the weekend by praying for the weekend, providing transportation to and from the weekend, providing general palanca to the weekend and personal palanca to the candidate, and offering help to the candidate’s family during the weekend. A sponsor should attend mananita (men attend women’s, women attend men’s) and the closing on Sunday afternoon.
Most importantly, the sponsor is expected to help the new Pescador live the Fourth Day as it is presented on the weekend by encouraging the new Pescador to join (or form) a Reunion Group and to attend Sequelas. The sponsor should also encourage the new Pescador to work on a Tres Dias weekend, to join and/or become active in a church family and be responsive to the new Pescador until he/she is established in the Fourth Day.
When considering sponsoring someone to a Tres Dias weekend, think of how Jesus prepared His disciples for their Christian walk – He spent three years in close friendship with them, mentoring and preparing each one for the work He would call them to.
“We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers: constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father, knowing brethren, beloved by God, His choice of you.” 1Thess 1:2-4
As a follow up to our weekends, Tres Dias of Northern New Jersey hosts a monthly meeting, which is called a "Secuela", at local Churches.
The September Secuela will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Clinton Church of the Nazarene located in Clinton NJ.
Food & Fellowship for all Secuela's begin at 7:00 PM and the Music & Meeting begin at 7:30 PM.

Do You Know What This Means?
The fish is an ancient Christian symbol known from the 1st century catacombs
in Rome. The first literary reference to a fish as a Christian symbol is from
Clement of Alexandria (born c. 150) in Paedogogus, III, xi. During times of
persecution, early Christians would scratch a fish symbol on the ground as a
means to distinguish friend from foe. The symbol itself may have come from the
miraculous story of the loaves and fishes (John 6:1-13) or from the meal of
fish Jesus shared with His disciples at the Sea of Galilee after the Resurrection
(John 21:1-13). I prefer, however, the interpretation that it came from the
story of the coin found by Simon Peter in the mouth of the fish (Matthew 17:24-27).
The story may be seen as a metaphor for the free gift given to us by Jesus through
his atoning death - our salvation. The Greek word within the fish is ICHTHUS
which means "fish" in Greek. It's also an acronymn for the phrase Jesus Christ,
Son of God, Saviour.
